Runtime error 339 (referencing mscomct2.ocx) when starting TurboLaw

Details:

When starting TurboLaw, you receive an error message which says:

Runtime error 339 - Component Mscomct2.ocx or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid.

TurboLaw will then close.

This problem can occur when a file used by TurboLaw is not correctly registered with Windows. Normally, these files are registered with Windows when TurboLaw is installed; however, sometimes the Windows registration process becomes slightly corrupted and does not complete properly. This causes this problem to occur.

Resolution:

To resolve this problem, you must first un-register the referenced file, and then re-register it. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. Open a command prompt window (if using Windows XP, click your Start menu and then choose Run and type "cmd", then click OK. If using Windows Vista or later, click your Start menu and type "cmd" into the search box. Then, in the search results which will appear on your start menu, right-click the cmd item and choose Run as Administrator.)
  2. Type "regsvr32 /u mscomct2.ocx" and then press ENTER. You should receive a message saying that the process succeeded.
  3. Type "regsvr32 mscomct2.ocx" and then press ENTER. You should receive a message saying that the process succeeded.

Once you have completed these steps, you should be able to open TurboLaw without receiving the error message.
